We have made great friends in our neighborhood and also at our nearby dog park. My husband is having good luck in his stated goal of trying to play golf every month of the year as well as a ton in the summer and spring. I get the plentiful sunshine that is so good for both my physical and mental health. It sounds idyllic, doesn’t it? It really is. Why would I want to complicate it by running for public office! I guess the simple and true answer is that I want things to stay just this wonderful and beautiful, but I sense there is trouble brewing out on that horizon. Issues that we should deal with now rather than later.
Why should there be a traffic jam all the way down to Castle Rock in the several hours of both morning and evening rush? Why do my district’s teachers get paid less than elsewhere in the state? Why is everyone so concerned with our water supply? And for the love of God, why do children keep getting shot to death in their schools? Please see more on these and other questions in my Issues section.
Still there is a big leap between caring about issues and running for office, and what pushed me to take that leap is the current climate of our politics. The feeling that there are no solutions for any of these problems, no room for debate, and no tolerance for any political activities in Douglas County sure creates a feeling of despair if you don’t fight it. I am running for office to show we can fight and win and make Progress!
